Marbella Has Ascended To The Position Of The Seventh Most Populous Municipality In Andalucía
Marbella has ascended to the position of the seventh most populous municipality in Andalucía, surpassing a population of 150,000.

Over the past five years, the town's population has increased by 6.7%, outpacing provincial capitals Cadiz and Jaen. Marbella now ranks below only Seville, Malaga, Cordoba, Granada, Jerez de la Frontera, and Almeria in terms of population size, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics.

The town's current population of 150,725 signifies a notable milestone, making Marbella more populous than provincial capitals Cadiz and Jaen. The figures, which showcase Seville (681,998), Malaga (579,076), Cordoba (319,515), Granada (228,682), Jerez de la Frontera (212,730), and Almeria (199,237) as the precedents, highlight Marbella's demographic growth.

Félix Romero, a spokesman for the town hall, expressed satisfaction with the robust growth, stating, "We are experiencing healthy growth, remaining attractive to new residents and attracting increased investment."

Anticipating positive economic implications, Marbella town hall foresees a rise in local revenue through increased tax contributions from residents and enhanced support for municipal services. The 2024 local budgets show a surplus of nearly 11 million euros compared to 2023, a development attributed to the influx of new residents. Additionally, data indicates ongoing construction of new homes to accommodate the rising population, positioning Marbella as a leading municipality in the Costa del Sol's housing boom.

Exceeding 150,000 residents makes Marbella eligible for various benefits, including a 7% increase in the Participation of State Income (PIE) and regional funds (PATRICA), enabling greater funding for projects from both national and regional sources.

While official records list 150,725 registered residents in Marbella, indicators like water demand and waste generation suggest a population exceeding 200,000, doubling in the summer months. The town attracts a diverse demographic, including retired golf enthusiasts during the low season and digital nomads from northern Europe seeking refuge from the cold.

Foreign residents constitute a substantial portion of Marbella's new population, with nearly a third (51,024) being non-Spanish. Since 2019, over 11,000 foreigners have registered as Marbella residents, with 4,670 in the current year. Notably, Nueva Andalucía boasts an 86% foreign population, followed by 56% in Las Chapas, 27% in San Pedro, and 16% in the town of Marbella
